CopyCat Zaxby’s Southern Fried Shrimp
Ingredients
1 lb large shrimp (peeled, deveined, butterflied, tails on)
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch (for extra crunch)
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
1 tsp paprika
Oil for frying (peanut or vegetable)
Directions
Soak the butterflied shrimp in buttermilk for at least 15 minutes.
In a shallow bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, salt, and paprika.
Dredge shrimp in the flour mixture, pressing firmly to ensure a thick, consistent coating.
Heat oil to 350°F. Fry shrimp in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
Drain on a wire rack and serve immediately with Zaxtail sauce.
Zaxtail Sauce Recipe:
1/2 cup Mayonnaise
1/4 cup Ketchup
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp Horseradish
1/2 tsp Garlic powder
1/2 tsp Black pepper
Mix all ingredients together and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.
